One of the most valuable but underused tools of the new generation of multifunction devices (MFD) is scan to email. This is where you feed a document through your MFD the same as you would when copying. But instead of making a hard copy the MFD scans it to an electronic file in either PDF or TIFF format and sends it to your email address. The MFD can also usually send a scanned document of this sort direct from the MFD to any email address.

Historically, what has always been a sticking point for this incredibly powerful tool is that you need an email server to send them. Larger companies usually have this on site but what about the small to medium size business? Some will have an outside company they outsource email through but many will still be using the free email sites like Yahoo or Gmail which do not offer the SMTP server service necessary.

This is where Burtronics comes into the picture. We have an onsite dedicated SMTP server whose sole purpose is to process and send scan to email documents for our customers. We have a cutting edge server with three T-1's of bandwidth to insure your documents are sent in a timely manner. Often you can send a document from your MFD and it is waiting in your email inbox by the time you get back to your desk.

Many companies have made the transition away from fax to solely using scan to email. And most of our MFD's have the capability of fax to folder or fax to email for the still necessary facsimile communications. Also consider the cost savings of not needing those extra phone/fax lines, not having to print a document then run it through the fax machine then throw it away and not having an employees time wasted handling and routing incoming and outgoing faxes.
